It's not what you do it's the way that you do it!
With today's sedentary lifestyle, getting regular exercise is more important than ever. At some level, most of us know that and some of us act upon it.

However, getting fit is not just about stamina and perseverance. We all know someone (it may even be yourself) who has damaged themselves whilst getting fit. What we may not be aware of is the 'drip drip' effect of poor use* whilst exercising. Sometimes, the effects of this poor use don't manifest until sometime in the future: months or even years away. These effects can include:
poor posture - wrong muscles being over-developed for example
poor breathing as our ribcage gets unnecessarily held by over-tightened muscles
joint pains as wear and tear takes it's toll
back, neck or shoulder pain
tight, unflexible muscles

Ironically - all the things we are trying to avoid by leaving behind our sedentary lifestyle!

Benefits of applying Alexander Technique to sport.
Learning the Alexander Technique will teach you how to improve your balance and co-ordination and give you greater awareness when carrying out all movement. If you apply this new understanding to how you exercise you can have greater confidence that what you are doing is of benefit to you.

Also, if you are new to exercising, learning the Alexander Technique first can give you a different perspective on how to begin in a way that will prevent problems from occurring.

*Use: This means the way that we instigate and carry out all our movements - from the original thought/decision to move or do something or even nothing; up to and including the action itself. The concept of 'use' does not separate mind and body: the two are part of the one.
